Magrabi Foundation

The Magrabi Foundation was launched in 1992 by the founder of the Magrabi Medical Group, Dr Akef El-Maghraby, to offer affordable, accessible and acceptable eye healthcare to people in Egypt. To-date, the foundation has examined more than 700,000 individuals across Egypt's 27 governorates, distributed over 100,000 eye glasses, operated over 42,000 surgeries and opened seven satellite clinics. The foundation partners with leading hospitals, research institutions, universities, international organisations, government entities and NGOs to enhance eye healthcare in Egypt and build capacities for the future. While their main operations are currently in Egypt, the foundation has also developed overseas partnerships and in 2016 opened the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute (MICEI) in 2016 to provide high-quality eye care services and training, to raise eye care capacities in Cameroon.
