Noor Dubai

Noor Dubai Foundation is a UAE based charity focused on the prevention of blindness and visual impairment globally. Since its launch in 2008, more 27 million people from across Africa and Asia have benefitted from the Foundation’s free treatment and preventive programmes. These include: surgeries; eyeglasses; medication; and health awareness and training. Noor Dubai is a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives foundation (MBRGI), the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the Neglected Tropical Disease NGO Network (NNN), and the International Coalition for Trachoma Control (ICTC).

Programmes

  • Comprehensive eye care programme (Nigeria)
    In 2019, the foundation launched a four-year comprehensive eye care programmes in collaboration with Katsina State government involving service provision, human resource development, infrastructure development, health education, and system building. The programme aims to improve the quality of life and the socioeconomic status of the people of Katsina state and will contribute to reducing blindness and visual impairment in the state by at least 30 to 40 percent through cataract and refractive error services.
  • Eye care programmes (Barishal)
    In 2021, Noor Dubai launched a five-year programme in partnership with Australia's Fred Hollows Foundation, in the Barishal division of Bangladesh. The aim is to reduce avoidable blindness by strengthening the local eye healthcare system and providing effective and affordable prevention, treatment and management of refractive error and diabetic retinopathy, the leading causes of blindness in Barishal.
  • Mobile eye camps
    Noor Dubai Foundation runs mobile eye camps in remote areas of developing countries across Asia and Africa, where communities have no access to adequate eye care services. The activities in the camp include screening, diagnosis, surgeries, and spectacle distribution.
  • Mobile eye clinics
    One of Noor Dubai's local outreach programmes, the clinic aims to provide free eye screenings to patients at their locations. The fully-fledged bus travels around different communities across the UAE with the objective of early detection and intervention to prevent visual impairment.
  • Trachoma elimination programmes
    In collaboration with the US-based Carter Center, the foundation has committed to the elimination of blinding trachoma in the Amhara region in Ethiopia, the highest known burden of trachoma in the world, using World Health Organisation (WHO) endorsed strategies, known as the SAFE strategy, to control the disease.
  • UAE treatment programme
    The UAE treatment programme is one of Noor Dubai’s national outreach programs aimed to help treat UAE residents with limited financial capability and who are suffering from critical eye diseases. The program includes treatment of diabetic retinopathy, cataract surgeries, or any eye injuries.
