How Anera is getting help to people on the ground
Gaza is, in the ‘best’ of times, a difficult place to work as a humanitarian aid organization. The blockade that has been in place since 2007 has made bringing items into the territory a great challenge and it has strangled the economy, forcing some 80 percent of the population to rely on outside aid.
This latest war, however, has made things immeasurably worse in Gaza. Very little is getting in, at a time when people are starving, homeless and desperate.
One of the few iNGOs still operating on the ground in Gaza is Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid). In this session, Anera's president and CEO, Sean Carroll, will talk about how the organisation has been able to deliver in Gaza and its plans going forward
Anera was formed by Americans after the Arab-Israeli war of 1967. It provides more than US$170m annually in humanitarian aid and development assistance to refugees and vulnerable communities in the Middle East, i Anera's programmes operate in Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan and include medical relief distribution, infrastructure development, education, and economic growth initiatives.
