Rebuilding lives
In regions plagued by violent conflict, landmines and unexploded ordnance linger for decades—shattering lives, paralysing communities, and impeding any chance of recovery. Nowhere is this more visible than in parts of Syria and the broader Arab region, where land once used for farming, schooling, and housing has become uninhabitable. Humanitarian mine action is often the first and most critical step toward rebuilding—clearing a path not only for physical safety but for social and economic revival.
In this conversation, Andrew Moore, The HALO Trust’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Afghanistan, will share insights from HALO’s extensive fieldwork in some of the world’s most complex and fragile environments.
Drawing on years of experience—from Angola to Afghanistan—he will explore how mine clearance is enabling displaced families to return home, helping communities reclaim livelihoods, and creating conditions for long-term development and peacebuilding.
