How to fund responsible, accountable tech

How to fund responsible, accountable tech

The environmental demands of the AI tools that have flooded the market in the last couple of years are far beyond those of the technology platforms we were using previously. All of a sudden, AI has shaken up every sector—at a serious cost to the environment.

The water demands of a typical data centre powering an AI platform are the same as the demands of a town of roughly 50,000 people. The energy demands of growing AI are extending the lives of coal plants, previously on their path to a planned closure.

Amidst climate, health, and safeguarding concerns, is there a responsible way to fund technology development? We are convening a panel of experts to find out where philanthropy is stepping in and stepping up.

Questions our panel will explore include:

  • How can philanthropy that funds technology place climate at the centre of their strategy?

  • Is there a place for philanthropy to influence the actions of the tech giants of today?

  • How are funders and grantees working together to pursue responsible technology innovation?
