Continuing education in a warzone

Why learning still matters in Gaza

Decades of conflict and blockades have left Gaza's infrastructure and economy in tatters, but against the odds, the adult literacy rate in Palestine is among the highest in the world and around one third of Palestinians aged 18-24 enrol in tertiary education.

To understand more about the importance of education in Palestinian society - and the challenges posed by this latest conflict - join Arab Foundations Forum (AFF) CEO Naila Farouky in conversations with two leading voices from the sector.

Deya' Leonard Dresner, is the founder and executive director of the Leonard Education Organization (LE•O), is a nonprofit providing scholarships and mentoring to young Palestinians from the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan, and beyond.

Israa’ Ali, meanwhile is the founder of Ahfad Al Zaytoun, a Cairo-based NGO offering children from Gaza a trauma-informed after-school programme aimed at developing emotional intelligence for a generation affected by conflict.

During the webinar, they will discuss: challenges to delivering education during conflict; how students can be supported; and what happens next for Gaza.
